Hallo liebe Leuts,
Baba,
Caro
Hola muchachos,
or something like that... It’s gonna be a short one again, after a long week of bird surveys/distance sampling and rat eradication. I didn’t even get round to answering my e-mails during the week so sorry to those waiting on replies, you’re gonna have to wait a little while longer. Next week should be easier, but who knows…
Now to other things: Very exciting stuff happened down in Soufrière last week, we caught our first iguana!!! Finally Liz can train the dog on a live specimen, which is awesome, especially since she hasn’t got much time left on the island, she’s only here for two months. Since I haven’t been down to Soufrière for three weeks now, there is a good chance I might be down there next week, and get a good luck at the ig, and see Tucker at work.
On the other hand, a former volunteer is flying in today, she is gonna be doing a nightjar survey on the island for the next three weeks, and one of us will be going with her each week. Nightjars are obviously nocturnal, which means camping out in the bush working nights, so good fun, but that would again mean that I’m nowhere near my computer… there’s no way I would pass up on that opportunity though… the problem is that there is 6 volunteers, but only three weeks, so we’re gonna have to draw straws about who gets to go with her… we’ll see. Lots of very exciting stuff happening, between iguanas and nightjars, the latter apparently live near the Leatherback turtle nesting grounds as well, and the nesting season is just starting…
Also, I went for my first outing last Saturday, can you believe it! More than one month on the island, and I went to the beach for the first time last Saturday, had my first swim… we went to a place called Rodney Bay, which comes complete with shopping mall and overpriced food and drink, nice for a bit of relaxing and indulging, but at the end of the day I was glad to be out of there to be honest… Treated myself to a nice lunch and then -all hail the coffee chain- a nice caffe latte and a cream doughnut… bliss!
Oh, and I also acquired a new hat, after realising that I actually care about how ridiculous I look in the other one and so only ever wear it in emergencies… silly, ain’t it? But hey, I got a new one now, and I like it.
Alright guys, gotta go now, haven’t had brekkie yet. Hope you’re all doing well, Happy Easter!!!!! Send me some chocolate! J
Carola
